The Golden Acorn is the first book in the bestselling Jack Brenin series. When Jack Brenin finds a golden acorn lying in the grass, little does he know that it is the beginning of a thrilling and magical adventure. Just an ordinary boy, Jack has been chosen for a hugely important task, and enters a world he believed only existed in legend. Full of twists and turns, a greedy grumpy raven, and other memorable characters, ‘The Golden Acorn’ is a hugely entertaining and exciting tale from a very talented new author. Your kids will love it, and so will you! This brilliant story deservedly won the Brit Writers’ Awards 2010 for unpublished writers.

The Golden Acorn can be read as a stand-alone or as the first book in an on-going seven-book adventure. Once you’ve read this book we’re sure you’ll want to read more about Jack Brenin and the magical ‘Otherworld’ he becomes involved in. His adventure continues in Glasruhen Gate, followed by Silver Hill, The Lost Treasure of Annwn, The Oak Lord, and The Wichen Tree. The last book in the series, Uriel’s Well, is in progress.

My 9 year old daughter just finished The Golden Acorn. It has been there on her kindle for quite a few months, as she prefers animal stories, and she thought it was a ”boys book”. But she surprised me tonight by asking me to buy another ”Jack Brenin” book. I asked her why, and she said it was wonderful and she liked it very much and it is magical.

When I asked her to write a review she said she did not want to but I was to say it is a five stars. Jack is ace.
So, here I am, dutifully rating it 5 stars and I have also just bought her Glasruhen Gate: The Adventures of Jack Brenin, Book 2 as she requested. I hope she will enjoy it as much as she did the first one. I shall read them both myself later on and add my impressions to this review. I originally bought The Golden Acorn on the strength of all good reviews and I felt safe not to read it first. I am not disappointed. Thank you to all people who reviewed it before me

I do not usually take the time to write reviews, but I really wanted to share the joy that I got from reading this book. As someone who love books and have many, many, of them but have only ever read a few. I got this kindle book because it was free and it had very good Reviews. I can honestly say that of the very few books that I have ever read from beginning to end that this is one of my top 3.

I find that I did not want to put it down and could not wait to pick it up again. It got me so hooked that last week I purchased the other 4 books in the series. I have just finished it and I really loved everything about this book and would give it 10 stars if I could.  I’m looking forward to starting book 2 as soon as I finish writing this review.

I am, by the way, a 60 years young grandmother who is very happy to say that age is just a number.

Great Appeal for Fantasy Novel Fans

“The Golden Acorn will have a great appeal among those who have read the books of J. K. Rowling and J.R.R. Tolkien.”

Magic, Charm and a Plot Full of Fantasy

“Catherine has created a story for all ages that will make the older and more experienced get carried away into the age of a forgotten youth. The plot is well-crafted and readers will quickly lose track of time and space. Some of the ingredients that make the work so special are the sense of magic and the charm intrinsic to the narrative.  Winner in 2010 of the Brit Award for Writers Awards, competing with more than 20,000 candidates, The Golden Acorn is the ideal book for anyone looking for a plot full of fantasy, spirit and mythology.”
